Karen has designed and built her own workshop with the purpose of expanding her capabilities and pushing the boundaries of engraving and silversmithing using innovative techniques coupled with traditional methods and equipment.
She is committed to taking on commissions that are intellectually and technically challenging, while still commercially viable.
Being trained by master craftsmen in multiple disciplines has enabled Karen to develop a wide range of technical skills using a variety of metals and precious stones. Her work now combines these skills to make a range of hand-engraved silverware and jewellery and firearms.
She uses a combination of silver, gold, precious and semi-precious stones to create contemporary, handmade jewellery and silversmith items. However, her current focus is on engraving guns for her best clients.

Karen was honoured with the prestigious Jacques Cartier Award for Excellence at the 2023 Goldsmiths’ Craftsmanship and Design Awards. Karen’s award-winning entry was a meticulously crafted Rigby bolt action rifle magazine floor plate, adorned with exquisite scrollwork.
The Cartier Award for Excellence is a national accolade that celebrates outstanding craftsmanship and artistry in jewellery making and related fields. Independent jewellers and artisans from around the world are invited to submit their work for consideration.
From among all the gold medal winners, only one piece is selected as the winner of Cartier Excellence. This award has a 65-year history but has been bestowed only 43 times, reserved for pieces that meet the highest standards of excellence.
Karen Wallace’s winning piece is particularly remarkable for being the first to win that is neither gold nor silver. It is also the only gun engraving or gun making-related item to ever receive this honour. The judges were captivated by Karen’s exceptional quality and attention to detail in her beautiful scrollwork on the rifle magazine floor plate.
